Shinjiro Katakara: Chapter 1: Hinamizawa

shinjirokatakara:

Shinjiro stared at Rena for a moment before saying, “You….defend….me?”

He uttered the words like he never used them before, blinking a few times before he responded properly, “I am certain I can handle myself. One does not carry a blade such as mine purely for looks, young one.”

He motioned with his head for Rena to lead on again, trying not to get insulted for having been thought vulnerable. Maybe in danger? Sure, but vulnerable? He gave up on being that years ago.

“We’re a peaceful village, so we like to keep things peaceful~” Rena said, although knowing at the back of her mind that the Watanagashi festival was a day where violence does occur. She joyfully skipped in the direction of her house, almost reaching there but not fully. Rena could see it in the distance, calculating 5 minutes until she reaches her home. She then turned around to Shinjiro.

“So whenever I see mean people, I do the ‘eyes’. It works everytime because we’re known for that. The rules of Hinamizawa states that if one person will be mean to one person of our village, another person from our village will reinforce that villager. In other words, if one from Tokyo throws a rock at us, two of us will throw two rocks at them.” She raised her fingers accordingly with what she said, and simply smiled as she turned around to continue to her house. “You’re in Hinamizawa —you are now a part of it~”

Shinjiro Katakara: Chapter 1: Hinamizawa

shinjirokatakara:

Shinjiro gave a quick glance to Rena, but didn’t seem too fazed by the change as he turned his head back to face the terrified boys. He made a note to watch for the new puddle that had formed on the ground, but otherwise didn’t change where he was standing. Rena seemed to have them under control, and he didn’t need her gaze turning on him. Like it or not, he needed to keep her on his side. “I believe this is the point you accept you are not worthy to reproduce, and run away from the clearly superior of your generation before Natural Selection takes its place among humans for the first time in decades since the invention of medicine and healthcare. Or do I need to remove your balls myself?”

“N-Nope! We’ll get going!” The leader said, gesturing his men to follow him. These men were clearly intimidated by the recurring event that had befell upon them before, and at least they were smart enough to retreat this time.

Rena continuing staring them down until they disappeared around the corner, blinking her eyes to transition back into her normal form. She then turned to Shinjiro with a smile on her face.

“Well, looks like that worked out, hehe~!” She cheerfully said to him, almost as if her previous expression didn’t even exist. “Don’t hesitate to ask me for help if you ever need it~ Mean people are always in Okinomiya, so Rena will do her best to defend you!~”

Shinjiro Katakara: Chapter 1: Hinamizawa

shinjirokatakara:

(It’s ok)

Shinjrio slowed a little to let the young girl lead, grateful to have found someone so accepting and kind. He might not have been as lucky if he found someone else here instead. He didn’t know where he was, exactly, but at least he had someone to guide him.

As he passed by people, he tried to ignore the stares and hold that sense of purpose and intensity, marching on like he owned the place. This came at the cost of everyone who thought they owned the place becoming really pissed off at him. It wasn’t so much a problem until a few bikers jumped up, the leader with a ridiculous haircut that made Shinjiro wonder how much hair gel he needed to hold it up. The man practically spat in his face as he talked, getting all up in the armoured man’s personal space, and within punching distance- a fatal mistake.

“Hey, who’s dis bastard, hunh? He stompin’ ‘round like he’s some super-important guy. Where the hell didja come from, a costume shop? I thinks we needs to punch a little sense into the guy, eh fellas?”

The leader turned to his buddies who nodded in agreement, just itching for a fight. One even tried to grab Rena, a malicious grin painting his face. Shinjiro continued to look down at the biker leader, then slowly wiped off the saliva on his face plate. He then said politely, “I suggest you back off before you get hurt, punk. I do not want to leave a bad impression to the public.”
The biker grew furious and started shouting again, “Oh yeah, PUNK? I betcha I could take ya an’ yer’ silly getup ‘der. I’ll show ya pain!”
Shinjiro wiped off yet more saliva and muttered, “Mimicry is a form of flattery, so they say. I am going to take your repetition of my words as flattery, because you wouldn’t want me deliberately angry. Trust me, you don’t know pain yet. You have barely scrapped the surface of pain.”

Rena blinked as her eyes changed from its cutesy aura to a more menacing expression, filled with a sense of dominance and evilness. One of the men took notice of her change, and immediately backed off from his attempt to grab her. His face showed signs of sweat and fear, almost recalling the time where a similar situation occurred. He cringed as he remembered seeing the same eyes on all the other villagers’ faces for picking on a guy named “Keiichi Maebara”.

“B-Boss…” The man looked to the leader, expressing his worry, “…it’s gonna be like ‘that’ again. I thought we promised not to mess with the new kids in this area!”

The leader smirked at the man’s frightful expression, before taking notice of Rena’s killer eyes. “Oh sh*t…”

Rena, on the other hand, approach the men without hesitation, standing right in front of the leader. “Rena wouldn’t like to make any trouble in public…”

“F*ck…” The leader cursed as he, too, was intimidated by those eyes.

“Rena would like this to end as peacefully….” She then smiled, still giving off a sense of dominance in the air, “…as possible. Before it gets ugly….”

Shinjiro Katakara: Chapter 1: Hinamizawa

shinjirokatakara:

Shinjiro gritted his teeth a bit before finally putting a hand to where his chin would be if not for his helmet and started to think. He was in a totally new world, and he had no idea how to function in it. He finally said, “Is there some place I can stay? My home won’t be built for another few decades. And that’s assuming this change hasn’t caused a divide in our timeline.”

“Of course! I bet my papa won’t mind sharing a guest at our house~” Rena happily replied, willing to help the man. She skipped along the path to her home, glad that she met a new person, and then looking back to see if the man is following her. Forgetting to say what she needed to say, she then said, “Follow me~!” and continued skipping.

Shinjiro Katakara: Chapter 1: Hinamizawa

shinjirokatakara:

Shinjiro stopped dead in his tracks, then slowly turned to the girl next to her and asked, “…What do you mean, 1983? I was well into the 21st century a few minutes ago. And by apocalypse, I mean hellfire, angels and demons at war, explosions, death? Are you tell me that none of this happened?”

Shinjiro felt himself start to lose it, and quickly tried to calm himself. Some sort of time-warp? Maybe a fracture in the space-time continuum? Whatever the Purgatory was going on, he wasn’t anywhere near any place familiar.

“E-Eh? 21st century? H-Hellfire?” Rena said with both surprise and confusion mixed together. At first she thought that he was lying, but judging from his attire, his expression, and the atmosphere that he gives off, Rena later concluded that the best course of action would be to believe him. Or to the very least, answer his question.

“No… none of that happened as far as I can tell…” Rena replied, looking at the wheat grass nearby, then looked back at the man.

Shinjiro Katakara: Chapter 1: Hinamizawa

shinjirokatakara:

Shinjiro felt his eye twitch when the girl said ‘old man’, nor didn’t seem to notice the cuteness she added. He turned his head to her and said, ” I am Shinjiro, former high general of the P.O.W.E.R. faction. Just where is this place? What happened to it all? It’s almost like the apocalypse never happened here. Heck, I swear it’s like the 1900’s again.”

Rena blinked a couple times, puzzled by the man’s words, as she tilted her head in confusion. She also placed an index finger near her mouth to reinforce her confusion. “Mm… no… it’s 1983 right now. And what do you mean by apocalypse?”

Shinjiro Katakara: Chapter 1: Hinamizawa

shinjirokatakara:

Shinjiro glanced around the unfamiliar world around him, wondering how he was on the ground, safe and sound, when mere moments ago he was several hundred feet in the air after willingly falling out of a building. The air seemed different, untouched, and had this air about it like it had achieved some sort of peace he was disrupting. He finally dropped out of his habitual battle stance, sheathing his katana made of several different metals for each part to make it the nearly perfect weapon. He flexed his mechanical left arm, the fingers like claws, and headed in the direction of a path he saw, hoping his hulking, armoured frame didn’t attract too much attention. He didn’t see any angels or demons about, but they could always be hidden from him.

He kept on walking, finally entering a small, quiet village that seemed rather disturbed by his presence. He checked to make sure his helmet had it’s breathing apparatus intact, so he didn’t inhale any toxic or dangerous fumes just in case. He had no idea where he was, but he was still armed and had taken on many powerful foes.

“Mm?” Rena mumbled as she spotted an stranger walking down the road, his body coated in many things that were foreign to the girl. At first she debated on attacking him, seeing as how his weapons were sheathed, but she later decided a friendlier approach.

Now going up to him, practically jogging to him since he was a good distance away, she was able to catch up to him. She waved as a gesture of a greeting, smiling to reinforce her friendliness.

“Good morning, old man. Are you lost?” She spoke in the most polite way possible, careful to not sound too polite as she added a hint of her casual cuteness to it.
